Skyne joined forces with Tinker Imagineers to attend the Cultural Tourism Middle East conference of last week. Senior representatives from regional cultural and tourism government entities gathered and spoke about different developments, trends and challenges in the cultural sector in the Middle East Region.
The event was opened with a keynote from Prof. Dimitros Buhali,
Head of Department Tourism and Hospitality at Bournemouth University. He spoke about the different stakeholders in tourism and the type of cultural visitors you have. From a visitor who is purely visiting a destination from sightseeing point of view, or a purposeful cultural tourist who books a full vacation to only visit museums and heritage/ historical sites; a deep cultural experience. After the keynote of Prof. Dimitros there were several keynotes about the tourism developments in the UAE, Kuwait, Oman and Ras Al Khaimah.
Especially the keynote of the CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, Haitham Mattar, was very interesting. He spoke about the current success of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah and how they achieved this. His answer; a proper strategy for the short, middle and long term. Where do we stand for and how do we stand-out? Basically he said ‘destinations that won’t have a strategy will become a disaster. This is exactly what we as Skyne believe in and where we can add value as a strategic design firm.
Skyne is involved in many projects within the tourism industry, such as Mleiha archeological center, Shurooq, Heart of Sharjah and other cultural destinations. The developments of these destinations are all based on a clear and future proof brand strategy, a strategy that is based on thorough research. The only way to really stand out!
With the booming tourism industry in the Middle East region, we believe in adding a great value to our clients by working closely with them to create something that is meaningful in terms of strategy, design and experiences.
