Rebranding a chemical giant:

OQ Base Industries

As Oman’s only integrated producer of methanol, ammonia, and LPG products, located in the Dhofar region, OQBi is amongst the world’s experts to deliver premium compounds. Their agile and compact facility in the Salalah Free Zone, is designed to be flexible and responsive, enabling them to quickly adapt to market demands and consistently meet the needs of their clients, both locally and globally.

Equipped with advanced infrastructure and technical expertise, they deliver reliable, high-quality products for critical and innovative applications, from consumer product manufacturing to alternative fuel production. This operational excellence highlights OQBi’s ability to efficiently transform resources into valuable products.

PROJECT SCOPE

A complete rebrand to elevate its global appeal and connection with their communities

The OQ Group initiated a complete rebrand of their stand-alone company OQ Salalah into OQBi. To further enhance its reputation, OQBi required a comprehensive range of solutions: brand & market research, brand strategy & story, brand identity creation, digital design & development, brand roll-out and engagement programme.

Through field visits to Salalah, high-level workshops and in-depth research, we laid the foundation for a distinct brand strategy, complete with a compelling story and tagline that highlights OQBi’s strategic direction, unique strengths and added value to the community.

Our collaboration encompassed every aspect of the rebranding journey. From shaping its strategic direction and crafting a new identity to a seamless brand roll-out across all internal and external touch points, we worked closely with the team at OQBi.

We also created a comprehensive brand engagement programme to inspire and align over 450 people with the new brand’s vision.

Through our research and competitive benchmarking, we identified key trends and differentiators within the global chemical industry. This analysis revealed strategic opportunities for OQBi to position itself not only as a reliable producer but as an industry leader committed to empower industries and enrich lives.

FROM STRATEGY TO DESIGN

Creative storytelling to further embed the DNA across the organisation

To embed OQBi’s brand DNA throughout the organisation, we developed a cohesive visual identity that reflects its core values. OQBi’s future vision and ambitions are only possible through its people, diversity in products & skills, and the community. As such, the graphic elements in their identity feature a distinctive pattern design that stands out and captures attention.

Each element has been designed to work together to provide a strong visual impact, and are used to create impactful and dynamic visual language for their communications. When zooming in on the logo, the green of Bi reflects its focus on sustainability, while Bi itself has a scientific feeling of the periodic table, linking to the business activities of OQBi. The blue on the i, represents blue methanol production, with the angle being taking from the Q in OQ, visually connecting the entities.

To visually represent key data and trends, a series of infographics and icons have been created. Handcrafted, designed, and refined infographics were tailored specially for OQBi’s visual language library to visually communicate key messages. To help users instantly understand actions or ideas, a set of simple and own able icons were crafted to be used as quick visual shortcuts.

FROM DESIGN TO ACTIVATION

A seamless roll-out across all touch points

For the brand to be implemented consistently and on time before the internal and external launches across all digital and physical channels, a detailed roll-out strategy was developed to serve as a guide. Detailed objectives for all stakeholders were defined to ensure all target audiences were made aware in the right order following the right actions steps.

To inspire and ensure over 450 people within the organisation embraced the new brand, an extensive brand engagement programme was developed. A detailed brand engagement strategy was subsequently transferred in a train the trainer programme and employee presentation, to empower brand ambassadors to lead internal workshops and facilitate brand-aligned activities, building a unified brand culture.

With a compelling strategy, distinct identity, and seamless brand activation, OQBi is fully equipped to lead confidently toward its IPO, embodying reliability, innovation, and community-driven impact.
